Yarn Tension Velocity Profiler
This system controls two spindle motors, which are stretching yarn fibers. The motion control plot in the top window is a graphical image of the motor speeds during the test. The motion profile is input graphically by the operator using a mouse by dragging and stretching the velocity profile to the peak velocity required at a specific time point. The program displays the resulting tension changes, during the test, in the lower window. The data is used to setup the fiber dying process in a textile mill. Two variable speed, direct drive motors are combined with a PC and custom virtual instrument software to create a low cost yarn fiber test system. This system is unique in that it simulates pulling yarn as a human would, in short forceful bursts. This is useful in determining the repeatability of yarn reaction to these types of forces. Statistical reports on yarn strength and graphical results may be printed or logged into a database after testing.
